The Wii game console coming from the home of Nintento is the fifth home video home game console coming in the row and a direct successor to the Nintendo Game Cube. Nintendo released the new Nintendo Wii game console targeting Xbox 360 from Microsoft and PlayStation 3 from Sony. The attractive feature of the game console is Wii Remote, the wireless controller that can be used as a handheld pointing device that can detect acceleration in three dimensions. Another feature is the WiiConnect24, which has the ability to receive messages and updates through the Internet in standby mode. It was in 2004, that Nintendo first opened up on the idea of the console and it was later unveiled in 2005.Nintendo announced the release information for Japan, North and South America, Australasia (Oceania), Asia and Europe, including dates, prices and projected unit distribution numbers on September 14, 2006.
Nintendo Wii succeeded in marking record sales since its launch by taking the total sales to a higher rate than its competitors in the market. As per the NPD Group, the Wii has made more sale of units in North America than the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 combined in the first half of 2007. This was much larger in the Japanese market, where it currently leads not only in total sales, but usually outsells both consoles by 3:1 to 6:1 every week.
The Nintendo Wii console is the smallest home unit to date with a measurement of 44 mm (1.73 in) width, 157 mm (6.18 in) height and 215.4 mm (8.48 in) depth in its vertical orientation. The front of the console has an illuminated slot-loading optical media drive that has both 12 cm Wii Optical Discs and Nintendo GameCube Game Discs. Nintendo Wii has console comes in white, black, silver, lime green and red, but is currently available only in white. The Wii launch package consists of the console, a stand to allow the console to be placed vertically, a circular clear stabilizer for the main stand, one Wii Remote, one Nunchuk attachment, one Sensor Bar, a removable stand for the bar, one external main power adapter, two AA batteries, one composite AV cable with RCA connectors, operation documentation and a copy of Wii Sports.
